Ryan Cantville

Ryan Cantville

Pediatrician

I get to work with kids all day, which I truly believe is one of the best jobs in the world — especially because I’m a big kid at heart. Children seem to appreciate that I take the time to ask questions, listen closely, and show genuine interest in what they have to say. I listen to what they tell me, and just as importantly, to what they may not be able to say. Both can have a real impact on their physical and emotional health.

Sometimes a child needs a hug after a vaccination, a high five for a great report card, reassurance during a tough moment, or simply someone to make them feel seen and understood. Those small moments are some of the most meaningful parts of my day.

It is also incredibly important to me that parents feel heard. Parents know their children best, and their insights and instincts are an essential part of good care. My goal is to partner with families as part of their child’s health care team—from the first newborn visit to the day we send them off into adulthood. Watching children grow, change, overcome challenges, and thrive is both a thrill and a privilege. Some of the greatest compliments I’ve received are when friends, colleagues, and longtime families have trusted me to care for their children.

When my wife, Adriana, and I became parents, my perspective as a pediatrician changed forever. Our son was born with medical complexities that required significant care early in life, and I suddenly found myself on the other side of the stethoscope. Being a parent in the medical system taught me lessons I could never have fully learned in training. It gave me a deeper understanding of uncertainty, worry, resilience, and the importance of compassionate communication.

Today, as the father of two children, I continue to learn from them every day. Parenting has been more challenging, humbling, and joyful than I ever imagined. It has made me a better listener, a better advocate, and a better pediatrician. I am grateful for the opportunity to bring both my medical experience and my perspective as a parent to the families I care for.
